아아 我我, 130x130cm, inkjet print, 2011I have always believed that all people have within them another personality that is completely different from their own.
I have tried to capture this from the shamans. The Korean female shaman, or Baksu Mudang (the male counterparts)
live their lives in coexistence with God. The multi-exposure technique was used in order to not only make a simple record of their lives,
but to have a more direct approach to their sorrows and thoughts, and therefore depicting their "dual personalities."
As I derived inspiration from "Images of the Shaman" by Shin Yun Bok, who drew the shamans of the past in a time
when Korean female shamans could not even leave their names behind due to their low social statuses.
I tried to focus on the importance of shamans as those who cure people of their problems,
as well as their cultural value in the traditional arts.
